I need to know my options for replacing the factory Bose system in my '94 J30. I just purchased the car and I need something that plays mp3's. From reading some of the other posts I get the feeling I'm going to have to replace everything if I get rid of the indash. Help please!

You can replace the HU alone and still use the fgactory amp'ed speakers, but it requires an adapter (see my posts). The general opinion is you are making a compromise.

I'd suggest looking into having it repaired, see top 10 reasons to repair. You'll find alot of other helpful Bose info on that site.

Thanks for the response. There's so much info on this site, it's ridiculous! I would like to keep the Bose. Any issues with adding a CD changer? In the meantime, I'll probably look into an adapter for my Rio.

I have a Sony CD changer I picked up from a fellow member, but it won't work in my 94 Q. It came out of his 90 or 91 Q and has the seperate controller... I was going to make a point :D. He sold it to me with 2 cartridges full of CD's, mostly burned. Not sure if they're as MP3's or cda's?? Have to look and see if the J's were/are pre-wired.

Here a good source for J30 info - http://www.fuzzycats.com/j30.htm
