I always read here that we have to keep the factory amp hooked up or we'll lose the phone, nav, etc. However, I'm going through the AV service manual and I'm viewing it as we'd lose the auto volume control of those features. Can someone clear this up for me please?

I have always heard that voice navigation runs through the factory amp in the Bose system. So if it were completely removed or bypassed then you would lose your nav guidance voice. I suppose it is possible the bluetooth receiver may be also integrated into the factory amp, but I have not heard that bypassing the amp loses voice so I dont think that is the case. I am not sure how the volume is controlled and what exactly is meant by the "factory amp". It could by simply the amplifier, or it could mean amp + preamp processing. If the preamp section is integrated within the amp itself then yes you would lose the auto volume stuff as that processing would be part of that preamp section. But I havent seen anyone be clear on what all is the factory amp so I really dont know for sure. Most people stay on the safe side and simply take the amp's outputs for each channel and process them back down to line level signals for re-mixing and processing on their new equipment.
