My mom woke me up today to tell me that the alarm on my car was going off... intermittently. It would start honking, then stop, then start after a half hour or so, then stop. Wonder if its been doing that all night...

Any ideas on the cause? I got out of bed, started the car, and everything seemed okay. So I shut the door and locked it. Its been fine for an hour now.

I have the same problem. I think it might be the sensors. I remember it going off for no apparent reason like 3 different times.

Try undoing the battery..... I think that should help...

Mine did that one night when it was extremely windy. It could be the sensors picking up the wind.

I had this problem on our '92 Q about a week after we got the car. Someone on the board suggested I adjust the sensor under the hood. That fixed it! So I would start there. Now if the problem is on a Buick, I don't know what to suggest.Cheers, Alan

THe sensor is on the drivers side near the airbox. Its obvious... Its mounted on the strut tower.

I suppose adjust it higher...

Found it! And found the cause. At the meet, Fred warned me about my hood not opening/closing very well and potentially causing some damage.

So there's a little arc/bend in the hood. I sprayed the hinges with WD-40 and bent the hood back by hand. All is well.

I still think simply disconnecting the battery will prevent it from going off.

You mean the hood switch? The one with the rubber accordian boot? A good check is to just unplug it - it's normally open and closes when the hood is opened.
