A buddy of mine has a shop here in St. Louis and we were thinking about making an adjustable transmission mount for those who do not want to spend a fortune on whole mount kits. I know a mount kit would probably be the better choice but somthing well made that would completely bolt up to any S13/14 while using the R33 x-member without having a flimsy piece of metal. What do you think would be an appropriate price?

adjustable?

my "adjustable" transmission mount is just taking the transmission mount and making it 1 long slot on each size instead of 2 holes, then just using big angry lock washers to secure the bad boy in place.

and the price should be dependant on how much it costs you to make it.

Well it's similer in design. We'll have the long slots but instead of big washers they would be smaller square plates with blot holes that doesn't spin when you tighten it down. That way it doesn't matter how tweeked your frame is or what ever the holes will line up right and be just as sturdy as any other transmission mount.

not to mention a little locktight to make those bolts permanently secured....

You dont need adjustable mounts. Just position your motor correctly, and then make the mounts permenent. Once you moun the motor, you wont need to change it. Adjustable = sloppy IMO when it comes to motor/trans mounting.

But every car is different. Some arnt as straight as others. What o you mean position your motor correctly. There is two ways to do it. A complete mount kit or the Skyline x-member.

This is (IMO) the best way to do it. It was cheep, easy, and effective.

Cut and weld (or make new ones like I did) the motor mounts (not the aluminum part) 3/4" shorter. Place the engine in the bay where you want it by setting it down on the skyline x-member. Use a pry bar to push it around. It helps to have the trans connected (but will bell housing bolts loose) so you can get an idea of the correct possition. Mark where the mounts are sitting on the x-member and drill new holes on the x-member. This will position and mount your motor correctly.

And for the trans, get 2 7"x1.5" 1/4" thick peices of steel (Im overestimating the measurements, you can always cut them) for the trans mount. Turn the KA trans x-member 180 degrees. 1 hole should line up with the existing hole. Put the steel btwn the chassis and the x-member. Mark that hole and drill a thru hole in it. You will put a bolt here that will go thru the x-member and into the chassis. Where the chassis hole lines up with the other end of the steel, drill another thru hole. A bolt will go here and go thru the steel and into the chassis. As for the last hole, drill and tap a hole here. You will bolt the xmember to this.

See, thats way to complicated. People like me, that don't care about the 1-1 1/2 difference in moving to motor back. My motor sits fine with the R33 x-member. All we need is more of a one size fits all, not so much adjustable. We're not trying to move the motor back and we are not trying to lower it. All we want to do it build a transmission x-member that can be as sturdy as it should be. Not many people have the equipment to build thier own so they turn to people like Mckinney for an expensive alternative. I'm not bad mouthing Mckinney and I'm sure that after all the R&D it's a reasonable price. My buddy has a set and I will be helping install them on his car and trust me, If I could afford a set I would definatly buy it. Anyway All were getting at is a transmission mount that people can trust and bolt right on with out having to do any work to it.

Oh. My apologies. I didnt realize you were trying to make universal mounts. I thought you were mounting your engine only. Sorry.
