I was under the impression that the front bumper, wheel opening covers and engine compartment top covers all had to be removed to change F50 high beam bulbs. Dealer estimate to change bulbs was $130 per side.
In pursuing this with my service writer today, I learned that that's not true. But, the wheels and wheel opening covers DO need to be removed to get at them. While I intend to have my dealer do it for me, do it yourselfers should be able to do it in a relatively short time, perhaps 1-1/2 to 2 hours.Headlights do not need to be re-aimed, but with brighter bulbs, it's a good idea to make sure that they are correctly aimed, not only to get the maximum benefit from them, but to avoid inadvertently blinding other vehicles when they appear suddenly. Doing so can result in being head-oned.
I suspect that HID low beams can be replaced the same way, but from all that I've read, there's little to be gained from doing so, and not worth the cost. YMMV.
