After the underwhelming response to my wanted add for a Q45 active, I have been looking at the F50 models. I have found one at an auto dealer about 30 miles away. The good news is that it looks really good in the flesh and has all of the right options. The bad news is that it is a 2002 and the auto dealer does not have the service history.

I am attaching a link to the for sale in case anyone knows this car.

My question is: Is it possible to obtain the Infiniti dealer records without first being an owner. I am thinking not but without these and given the engine issues with F50 (oil consumption), I think it would be too risky to buy it.

rover- where did you post a wanted ad for an active?I believe i have the best two still in existence, but am interested to see if you find a good one!

you can certainly get the records without being the first owner, but usually they will insist on seeing the registration card. if it is for sale at an infiniti dealer, then there is no reason why they would not be able to provide that for you.

Regarding the active, I posted the wanted ad in the "Infiniti For Sale" forum but after a couple of days it disappeared. I then found it had been moved to the "Nissan / Infiniti Wanted" forum which I suspect that no one from the Infiniti Q45 forum ever looks at.

The 2002 F50 unfortunately is not for sale at an Infiniti dealer so the service records are not readily available.

This requires a little social engineering if you don't have a tight relationship with an Infiniti service writer or manager, or the owner providing it.

When I bought mine I didn't trust the dealer either so I checked the owners manual in the car and got the original owners name off of the card in the leather booklet and googled them and called them (stalkerish, but car people understand). It was kinda awkward but found out all I needed to know from the original owner about the car. Just an idea but it worked for me.

I just bought an 02 Q45 from a Ford dealer 90 miles away. It was a one owner @ 47K miles that was traded in on a Fusion Hybrid.

Before I closed the deal, I went to the local Infiniti dealer and spoke with a service writer, gave him the VIN. 15 minutes later I walked out with a detailed service history review, a hard copy of every maintenance action done since the car was new, and the service writer's opinion the the car was a real find.

Had no problems - just stated I was interested in buying the vehicle and wanted to avoid snakes in the woodpile.
