Here is a little information to pass along for anybody with a automatic trannie. I just brought my 77 kc and the guy said it didn't use oil and it had 77,000 org. miles and the truck seemed to be what he said. I got it home and the thing started smoking really bad when I would give it gas and let off the accerator, and the truck was using tranmission oil bad. The trans. oil was not going in the radiator or on the ground. Serval people said the smoke must be bad rings!! Well; finally, I have discovered all my troubles after I had picked up a new head and a complete motor and drive train, locally itwas a bad modulator valve on the trannie. It was allowing trans oil to be sucked into to the intake manifold and causing all the smoke. The truck is running like a champ now. Hope this make help somebody else. It just about drove me crazy not speak of the money I spent. I guess live and learn and may you want to as long as you live and live as long as you want to.

I went through that some years ago with a Mazda RX7 I once owned.  I wasn't really that difficult to diagnose as the smoke smelled of auto trans fluid and the trans fluid level was always low soon after refilling it.   But then again, at nearly 57 years old, I've seen just about everything a car can throw at you.
