i've tried searching, but to no avail. i'm a newbie when it comes to cars, so any help would be greatly appreciated. a couple of days ago, while driving a 1990 240sx hatch pretty hard, i think (at least my diagnosis) i broke my clutch. i wanted to make sure before buying a new one and installing it, that this was my problem and not the transmission. i read about the master and slave hydraulics, but i don't think thats the problem. i can shove it into gear, but the car does not move. i can also press the clutch and it returns to the normal position. i can even put it into gear using the clutch, but there is no engagement, which means the car doesn't move one inch, unless i'm rolling down a hill. do i have a transmission problem? or is it just a blown clutch? please help me out...thanks!!

I had the same problem.

Let me ask you this.... does your clutch only engage after you rev it to about 3,000-4,000rpms?If so, then I'm sorry to say you've smoked your clutch. The clutch plate and pressure plate need to be replaced. Also, it's a good idea to machine the flywheel while you're at it.This problem can be avoided by launching your car at no more than 3,000 rpms from a stop.Maybe 4,000rpms if you're in a race :)

thanks for answering. actually, i don't think it engages at all! but i shall try launching at 3k, to see if it catches at all. i'm pretty sure it doesn't. like i said, shifting, shoving, and just about anything other then rolling down hills and manual labor has gotten the car moving. it just likes to rev up as if its in neutral.
