I recently installed an aftermarket cold air intake on my 93 nissan 240sx. There is an extra tube, about 1 3/4" in diameter. It went straight up into the bottom of the factory intake tubing on the passenger side of the car. There does not seem to be any vacuum when revving the engine and nothing is blowing out. Can anyone tell me what this may be to and if it is a potential problem? Thanks.

It's the factory air intake resonator box tube. It's something like a muffler, designed to kill that cool induction sound. Just reach down and yank that whole thing out. Extra weight.

Thanks D-Unit... Where is the other side connected to? Should I cap wherever I pull it off of? Is there a resonator box that I yank out with it, or just the tube. I'm fairly new to doing performance mods and appreciate your help

ps- why does it say 'driving moms car' under my username ?!

Yeah its connected to a box bolted onto the factory fan shroud. Unbolt the box (resonator) and take the tube and box out.

ps... 'cus you're a newb... Post more and the status will change.

That tube IS connected to the resonator box. It doesn't matter if you take it out or not. It doesn't really get in the way of anything. So you probably should just let it cruise in there till it gets in the way. My friend yanked my out cuz he couldn't stand it being there doing nothing. I think there is a bracket and u just slide the box up and off.

It's in direct relation to your post count.

i just removed mine an hour ago. used some rubber plug off my dads 71 vette that he didn't need, it fit perfectly into the hole in the stock intake piping, used a little clear silicone RTV to seal it. car sounds better when reved and that tube must have been leaking air into the intake be cause now it idles a little smoother and revs easier.
