Is it true, you can only get extra keys through the dealer???

What do they charge? Heard they have to be programmed and are expensive.

It isn't a complicated process to program the car to recognize the key. Getting a key cut to the car is more troublesome.

I have to have a key for the Camel replaced (which means one new key and the cutting and reprogramming you need to do if you add any key...) and I was quoted ~$140.

This has been the case for some time now since chipped keys (immobilizer systems) became the norm. There might be some third-party companies that handle this stuff, but I doubt you'd save much over going to the dealer. Unfortunately it's a rather expensive task, but such is life.

Infiniti dealerships want to charge something like $50 just to reprogram a keyless entry remote (pre I-key) even though you can do it at home in about 5 minutes. The instructions are available online - but like Andrews said, getting the key cut is another story.

You can program the remote keyless entry fob your self, but you can't program the key to start the car - that's one that requires their car-computer thingy.

There's a company called street keys that will get a new key copied and programed for $97. Check out their website -streetkeys.com- to make sure there's someone local to you that can do the cutting/programming. I haven't had a versa key copied with them, but have used them before.
