So I ended up with an HKS racegate that I got in a trade. I believe it is 50mm, but it may be larger. It has a 16psi spring that I am changing out to an 11psi one.

My question is, what are the negative effects, if any, of running such a large wastegate?

The turbo I will be running is .68 exhaust/.50 compressor t3 on an rb20 with stock internals. I am shooting for somewhere in the 300hp range.

Will this wastegate work, or should I be looking for somthing smaller?

Search. This was covered recently. The original thread with Sydneykid's calculation example is on SAU.

That looks EXACTLY like a chinese knock off WG. Where did you get it.

Also, as long as it doesn't blow open before your desired boost level, you'll be fine. People talk about "response" being effected by a wastegate's size are dumb. If it's closed, it's closed.

This one's legit, I got it from a buddy who owns a shop down here.

Thanks for your input, thats kinda what I figured. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't mess anything up(don't see how it could but better to ask first.). Im going to try it out and if it does noticably affect the response, I'll get a smaller one.

Unrelated to your actual post, but the post above questioning the genuineness of your WG made me think of this...

I used to have a link to a page, that dissected both a genuine HKS wastegate and a chinese/stone mountain HKS copy. It detailed all the differences and was a pretty decent guide to tell if a HKS standard wg was a fake or not.

A few of the differences I can remember- diaphragm style- thumbscrews used- HKS name stamped on top- Spring color/styleetc...

Does someone have this link? I can't seem to find it now.
