I have heard talk on this site and wanter to know more

I assume the filter would be on the lines going to the transmission cooler. I thought that they would be like a smaller oil filter.

Do these reduce the flow of transmission fluid too much to make them worthwhile?

Are they durable enough to withstand long use and not cause failure?

Is there a recommended brand to use?

Thanks for any input

I plan to install one when the weather warms up. A company called Perma Cool makes transmission coolers AND FILTERS. http://www.permacool.com. It takes a regular Fram PH8 oil filter.

Intriguing idea given our trannies' tendency to more rapidly degrade (because of the J30's weight) without good maintenance than other models.

How often would an external transmission filter have to be changed?

When ever the the ATF is changed with the every 20-30k [2 years] flush........whenever the ATF changes color from the bright sparkling red to the washed out light red [due to overheating].

Why skimp since it uses a cheapo screw on Fram oil filter [$3.00]

Any advice on how and where to mount it on the early Q [location]- I am assuming the item comes with some mounting hardware - anyone having direct experience with mouting this filter kit?

Thanks

Tried to post this earlier, but you know about my aol troubles.

Anywho, early Qs got recalled to get a small (inufficient) transmission cooler and an external filter near the battery with an arrow on the top of the canister. Recent discussions have centered on replacing this canister with something like a remote oil filter.
