External temperatue

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have been reading the owner's manual and I cannot see where I can display the external temperture. Surely a car with so many options can do this. I have the tech and navigation package. Can someone tell me where to look?

Mine shows up in one of the screens in the LED screen between the speedometer and tachometer. You just have to toggle until you reach that screen.

But I have a different question: my external temperature reading always seems to be too high, sometimes as much as 10 degrees (F) higher than the actual temperature. Anyone have thoughts on this?

thanks Mandragora. I have had several vehicles with this feature and often found that the car read the temperature of the pavement and was a few degrees higher - sometimes 5, but not 10. Then again, I am reading things in celcius.

It should be accurate right after you start you car, provided it has had time to cool off. After that, the heat the engine generates raises the external temperature as you mentioned.

Thanks for the replies. Oddly enough, my $17,000 Toyota Matrix's external temperature is bang-on, so I'm a little surprised that Infiniti, which is so good with spit and polish, left something this everyday so sloppy. Our record temps may also be confusing the car--I've only had it since the end of June--so I'll be curious to see if it's any better once we get back into the 80s (F).

Page 2-26 of the 2008 Owners Manual... (everything mentioned below, is in the Manual.)

5. Outside air temperature (Icy in °C or °F)
The outside air temperature is displayed in °C
or °F in the range of 222 to 131°C (230 to 55°F).

The outside air temperature mode includes a
low temperature warning feature. If the outside
air temperature is below 37°C (3°F), the warning
is displayed on the screen.

The outside temperature sensor is located in
front of the radia tor. The sensor may be affected
by road or engine heat, wind directions and
other driving conditions. The display may differ
from the actual outside temperature or the
temperature displayed on various signs or billboards.

I used to get the "Icy" warning when the outside temperature is close to freezing. It has been quite cold recently in New England (in single digits F), but that warning has not come up. Does that mean there is something wrong with the temperature sensor?

EDIT: Never mind -- reading the manual, it seems that warning can be turned off. I'll check it tonight.
