I am looking at a way to do an external oil pick up for my VH41 as i am modifying the sump which means the sump bulge wont be at the front as normal as it will be at the back of the engine, meaning the oil pick up tube wont fit internally without alot of stuffing around. So as i have done on a Nissan RB30 turbo i used another/external oil inlet on the oil pump to suck in the engine oil through an external pick up.Jut wondering if there is another oil inlet (besides the original) on the VH41 oil pump, i did notice hoever there is a 1/2" alen key screw on the outside of the oil pump which looks to be pluging up an oil galery, just wonder if it can be confirmed if this is another point to fit an external pick up, i will post some pics later to clarify this alen key screw.Incase your wondering the engine is in a LJ torana, to the US guys, its an old Australian mucle car

Yes I had to do that as well.I ran the pickup right along side (or just below cant remember) the cradle which bolts all the main bearing caps down. I used the factory pickup, but slightly increased the size back up the the original entry. I think it only made about 1/2" difference in the overall depth of the "thin" part of the sump. There are access pints to the oilpump at the back if u want to mod the rear housing but my way seemed simpler for the sake of less hoses and small increase in engine height in engine bay. I will probably be modifying this oil pump housing anyway as I have big mods happening and the guys at the engine shop do away with the std oil filter housing after some bearing failures. They havent had any run bearings since. Is all good for mild mods I would think.

To determine the correct oil pick up points at the back of the oil pump means i have to crank the motor over to see if i get suction, unfortunatly i cant crank it over as its not wired up yet and wont be for some time.Could you tell me exacly which pick up point i should use?Ill have to post some pics soon of the back of the pump so you can point it out to me.Thanks heaps for your help.

I can only make one more for NZD$1k, then I'll be out of material. I'm thinking of keeping the materials spare for myself.

Sorry mate, I'd prefer not to do something like this if you have trust issues. I'll keep the materials for myself in case I ever want to make another flywheel.
