The s13 has an external coil but, the s14's in the distributor. I want to run an extenal coil. Can I just use a s13 cap or are there other things I need to do?

There are many other things you need to do. Its just not that simple. Are you trying to run an msd ignition setup? If you are some of us have a thread in another forum you should read first. Here is the link www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45

maybe in the long run. I would like to put a high power coil to start off with. I know honda guys go to extenals with just a cap.

Well then I wont say that it cant be done but a few of us are researching it and just to run msd on the internal coil is quite a challange to figure out. Running an external coil will require even more rewiring and fabrication. Also just running and external coil will have no great benifit other than maybe smoother idle and better throttle response. Unless your going to run boost the stock ignition is just fine.

The stock ignition is strong enough even for mild-moderate boosted applications... even the OEM Honda ignitions are strong enough for 500+ hp cars and the RPMs these ignitions have to work at are much higher than your typical KAT.

A good set of wires, good plugs, and a well maintained distributer cap/rotor, should yield sufficient spark to ignite most mixtures.

hum, so the dist acts as a CAS? Could you just gut the Dist and pull out the coil. then run the coil wires to a extenal coil? Does the S13 cap fit the S14 dist?
