Exterior illumination question (the tiny light by the keyhole)

How is the exterior convenience lighting supposed to work? My '93 has the small LED lights next to the keyholes, and the light-up bezel around the ignition keyhole in the steering column. When are they supposed to light up? Mine light up any time the parking lights or headlights are on, and they stay on until the parking/headlights are turned off. Is that how they are supposed to work?

I believe so. I thought they were also supposed to come on when you unlock with the remote, but I could be wrong.

The owner's manual says they come on when you lift up the driver's side exterior door handle. When the center dome light switch is set to 'O'.

Mine is a convertible, there's no 'O' position on the dome light switch, and the lights don't come on when the door handle is lifted, only when the parking light switch is on. Although I did notice today when working on it that they also light up when the dome light switch comes on when a door is opened.
