I am just about to pull the trigger on an 2011 infiniti M37 with 32K miles. It still has 10 months warranty on it. Do you recommend purchasing the extended warranty or is the transmission and engine up to snuff to last a very long time on these vehicles.

I need some advice fast

Thanks
Paul

It is being sold by a Honda dealership, the car fax is clean and shows no damage etc. The only strange thing is that it does not show any service records, only that the title was issued and inspections done. Should I be concerned about this, it came off a lease in Massachusetts and was then picked up by a Nissan Dealer and it is being sold by a Honda Dealer, the Nissan Dealer is right across the street from the Nissan dealer.
Any help in trying to make sure this car is okay is appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome aboard, Paul!

Here's some quick info - post6555444.html

I'm a big fan of the aftermarket ext warranties... they've served me well. When you consider the cost of replacing an AC compressor, or a Body Control Module, or worse yet, a transmission, the up-front cost is totally worth the peace of mind.

I always tell people, you're buying a $50K car (when new). If you're gonna quibble over $1500-$2000 for a warranty, buy a used Corolla. :)

I personally am a fan of extended warranties, but only the manufacturer backed. The infiniti elite plan is going up in price every year on April 1 st. If that is what you look into buying, make sure you do it befor the price jump. I get mine next week.
I don't recommend getting a third party contract, except for carmax warranties if you purchase the car from them.

My Elite plan just ran out at 96,100 miles. Bought the plan from Circle Infiniti in 2010 and it has more than paid for itself. Last warranty work before the plan ran out was replacement of the passenger side headlight to replace the one that had been leaking and fogging up for some time now. That one repair would have cost at least half of what I paid for the warranty. Earlier, I had the front hubs replaced, the sway bar bushings refreshed, a leaky fuel rail fixed, and several other warranty items covered. I recommend the Elite plan wholeheartedly.

Manufacturer-backed just means the dealer sticks a 10-25% profit on it.

An auto warranty is an insurance policy. They all use one of 3-4 different insurance companies / underwriting groups, and as long as you do your homework and read the documentation, there is no difference. Period.

I don't care what the dealership finance guy says (or the service manager), he/she's wrong. I sat through the training, I learned the shady "sell" tactics, and I researched other options. My Q45 got over $6k in repairs on a $1500 policy, at the dealer, with no hassles (and not a dime out of pocket).

The whole "manufacturer-backed" thing is salesmanship - nothing more, nothing less. The buying public is often too uninformed to figure it out. :(

Well, I may agree with some of the things you bring up, but not all. First, the warranty underwriter is of no significance with regards to coverage, claims being processed favorably, etc...
Second, if you take a car for repairs to an Infiniti service shop you will have had an overall better service experience with the elite infiniti plan than with a third party plan, most of the time. The dealer service is familiar with the elite plan, what's covered and what's not, they are comfortable with being reimbursed for repairs from the warranty administrator etc...
Third, one just needs to google the reviews for extended warranties; not so many horror stories for the plans with car manufacturers name in them. Quite the opposite for all the others.

AZ..... Could you recommend a plan that you have been happy with, so the members here can also benefit?

I pulled the trigger on the maxcare plan from CarMax. Hope I don't need to use it, but I hope I get taken care of properly if I do. I've already had to have my CD player replaced in the one week I've had the car, bought with 49,000 miles on it.

I have had two. My first was through WarrantyByNet (not sure if they're still around or if they've merged with another provider).

My second was through CarChex (which I talked about in this post: post6555444.html).

Both were trouble-free. My service advisor was very familiar with both (and yes, the underwriting company DOES matter, because that's ultimately who they're dealing with). No glitches, no hassles, and the $100 off (just for being a member here) is a nice perk.

Took me a couple months to figure out that the coffee and donuts were for EVERYONE, not just those of us getting free warranty work... guess I should've shared with the other customers. ;)

The problem with carchex is that they are only a broker, so to quote you from a previus post ...all they do is slap extra 10 to 20% profit/commission on it.
Looks like you got lucky and they shopped a good deal for you with a reputable provider. However, many people weren't so lucky: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/directory/carchex.
On the other hand, the ELite plan by Infiniti is administered by NESAN (Nissan Extended Services North America) which is a division of Nissan North America.
I tried to find some unhappy customers of the Elite plan and came up with nothing. The reason is simple. Carchex will sell you any crappy service plan they can get to give you the cheapest deal. The elite plan has only one type of plan - the exclusive kind with a short list of items that are not covered. Everything else not listed will be fixed by the dealer. IT's a no brainer for me.

regards
