So my 2009 Rogue warranty is coming to an end at the end of the month. Just wanted to get any kind of advice from people.

Also, if you got the extended warrany which one did you go with and how much did you pay?

Thanks!

im MY opinion those 'extended warranties' are nothing short of a scam. my brother in law gets jacked every-time with those. i would stay away from them, if your asking me for my opinion.

we have a very reliable and time tested engine in our car. the only thing in this engine that would need replacement is the usual wear item: timing chain adjusters & guides. but i drove 150,000+ miles in many nissan engines NEVER having to replace those adjusters. just oil changes.
your transmission is covered under 120,000mile/10yr warranty. in a nissan thats really the only thing that would cost as much as that silly warranty.

It's a matter of personal preference just as any extended warranty on any product. I personally wouldn't buy an extended warranty that wasn't from the manufacturer. It's really your call to make whether you get one or not or use the manufacturer or another provider. It's one of those things that is a waste if you don't need it but useful if you do need it. You can purchase from any Nissan dealer and pricing is more competitive online.

Yeah I would purchase from Nissan if I did get it. I'm just wondering if anyone with an '08 or '09 Rogue has had to use theirs yet?

Also, it doesn't seem like all that much would be covered...

I emailed Nissan of Santa Rosa, which other people recommended from another thread and these were the prices I got back for used <40,000 miles

Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 12 Month 12,000 Mile Coverage: $970.00
Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 24 Month 24,000 Mile Coverage: $1,305.00
Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 48 Month 48,000 Mile Coverage: $1,762.00
Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 60 Month 60,000 Mile Coverage: $1,956.00
Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 36 Month 36,000 Mile Coverage: $1,986.00
Rogue AWD Gold Preferred 72 Month 80,000 Mile Coverage: $2,302.00

Great discussion topic, mainly because it is a source of a lot of stress for new car buyers and these are very expensive. It's a lot like gamb|ing, and how comfortable you are with risk. For me it's always a no-brainer, considering how much they charge for these warranties I always prefer to keep my cash, be very careful with maintenance over the years, and buy a vehicle that has a good reliablity rating so the chances of major problems are vastly reduced (resist the urge to purchase that cheap dodge, it'll cost you a lot more in the long run!!).

There are some good existing discussions on this topic that should offer you insight into both sides of the discussion. No right or wrong answer, just a few different perspectives, check it out and good luck with your decision:

Speaking from my personal experience, ImStricken is 100% right on this one. I've only purchased the extended warranty for two of my vehicles. Had it for my '08 Yaris and it was a waste of money, car was flawless. The other was a '92 Saturn (POS). At 60K the rack and pinion system went up, and I figured the extended warranty would cover it. Long story short, I had to fight with them to get them to cover half the repair costs. (I'll save my anti-american car rant for another time. LOL!)

This is just my opinion, but unless you suspect your going to have SERIOUS mechanical problems that won't be covered by what Nissan currently covers on your ride, save your money. I mean that literally, put the money you'd spend on the extended warranty into a savings account, CD, etc. and I'll bet you'll come out ahead (and I'm not a betting man).

When I got my Certified 2008 Rogue last October, I added the Preown Plus Extended Warranty and I paid around $2500 for 5 years/100K miles.

I don't think I wasted my money since I already used it once last week... The switch to open my trunk died so I took it to the dealer and they order a new one, installed it and I paid nothing.

Back Door Lock and Handle Assembly (90502-S35002) is $103.54 (http://www.courtesyparts.com/90502-lock ... 25169.html). I understand your point, don't get me wrong, but a $100 piece (you can easily change yourself, so labour could be $0) can't justify a $2500 investment.

Just wanted to point out that nissan isn't the only option for extended warranties. I personally dont spend the money (I do my own repair and maintenance), but for those that want hands off, there are lots of options...
Costco has lower priced options http://www.costcoauto.com/vpp/ as well as other 3rd parties.

hehehe, there are some stuff that I can do in a car, but there are others that I prefer not to... I have the tendency to break things
