Hi,

I have a 01 i30 having about 54k miles. Last week the air flow meter was replaces due to check engine light on. Since these incidents can happen(not sure how often) and are expensive, is it recommened to take extended warranty for some third party and what are the good extended warranties companies?

Thanks--rubs

If proper maintenance is performed, your car should not experience any major problems for a long time. It is not uncommon for these cars to be able to go to 200k miles with no problem.

rubs - Please search my posts for "warranty" - I have drafted a lengthy explanation of the value of an aftermarket warranty (and how to avoid getting screwed).

I will really appreciate if you can point me to the right document (i saw lot of different documents). Asso which are the good comapnies to go for and whather the rates are stable or are negotiable. Also i found this in other post"As soon as I get back to the office, I'm going to be reactivating NICO's affiliate program with our aftermarket warranty company"It will be great if you give more details about this.

Looks like you found the right post... We have an aftermarket warranty company that serves NICO members, same warranty you can buy through the dealer (but not pay the dealer markup).. I will work on getting that information tonight.

Your car sounds like a good candidate, and I'd highly recommend a good extended warranty.

I havent read the Hitman's post yet, but I find it amusing that when I sold cars, customers paid $1200 for warranties that only cost $400. Still, even at $1200 it will usually pay for itself, especially on a luxury car.

I got the extended warranty on my '04 Maxima... I paid $600 and the whole car is covered up to 100,000 mi. I would recommend it. Especially with newer cars in which everything is electronically controlled.

Sams Club,Costco offer warranties. Also call your auto insurance company. They offer them or work with companies that do and give discount to their members. And working at a dealer, you need an extended warranty on a new car.

You must read any warranty very carefully, many do not cover what you may think is covered. No warranty covers "the whole car"
