Extended service, stay-nu, all these extras, which are worth it?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

We picked up our EX35 last Thursday (dark currant/wheat), and we love it. We handed over the vast cheque to pay for it, and then we are presented with all these extra coverages we could go for.

To be fair, they weren't at all pushy, and when I said I would take it home and read up on it and then let them know they were fine. But which are worth it?

Extended Service Contract up to 7 years. $2kElite Maintenance - 3 years $895Tire and rim coverage - 5 years $639Stay-nu - Door ding dent protection 5 years $689Crystal Fusion - Windshield protection $499Data DotsLojack

Well to cut a long story short, the only ones we are considering are the Service contract, the tire and rim and the stay-nu. Has anyone got any advice on these?

I'm not sure about the tire and rim coverage, I've never had any damage to tires and rims, and we aren't living in a very harsh area, roads are ok round here. The stay-nu sounds good, because I hate little scratches and worse dents that appear on your car.And we plan to keep the car around 6 or 7 years so extended warranty sounds good, especially with these gizmos like sat nav and the cameras.

Any ideas?

All:

Have same questions as originally posted for StayNu and Tire/Rim protection program. Do folks see these as a good/bad deal? I can get both for $1,100.

Noticed on StayNu contract that scratches under 3" aren't covered. Pretty sure I'm going to want smaller scratches than that fixed anyway. However does cover a bunch of other stuff that look to be important (aka paintless dents, et al)

Regards to wind shield protection...some auto insurance will cover those for couple bucks a year... I am not sure the exact price but it's very cheap if you want to add windshield coverage.

Tire & Rim... Are those chromed? If not, and you do'nt have low profile tires, then I think you can take some 'risk' and not buy those insurance. I've driven 4 vehicles each over 8+ years of ownership, none of them had issues w/ the rims. Knock on wood ..I haven't scratched my rims against a curb 'yet' :D . As w/ tires, I did get a couple flat ties (wonder who put those nails and bolts on the gound ... and all of them were able to patched for $10. It happened to me ONCE over the last 30yrs that I had to actually buy a new tire because the bolt was too far towards the sidewall. Some tire shops do provide tire insurance against flat tires and I think those charge some 30 bucks or so....

Personally my conclusion if I were being offered by the dealership on these 2 items / services..I will decline.

As w/ Dings and Dents... I do get those QUITE OFTEN . and it pisses me off. it cost some 150+ to take care of the dents (per panels). Now maybe you could read the coverage in detail how often you can get the dents cleared out if u get the coverage...or how many dents it has to be per panel before you can get it fixed....ask what if you get a ding every week...can you go to get it fixed every week? If they can lower the price for this to 400 or so over say 7 years..I will definitely get it since like I said I always get dings and dents on my vehicles...and I like to get them fixed.

In the end, I declined both stay-nu and the wheel protection. I thought the wheel protection was far too expensive, I think you'd have to have significant damage twice to make it worthwhile.

Stay-nu would have been nice, and there's already a tiny chip on the bonnet (perhaps the self healing paint will deal with it!!) but you could certainly have these things fixed for less than the price of stay-nu unless you go getting several dents.

I did get the extended service, because I plan on keeping the car for 6-7 years, and there are a lot of gadgets that could go wrong on top of all the mechanical items.
