How's the judge a douche? For holding someone accountable to posted rules and general decency?

Kid was a punk, as evidenced by his cowardly backpedaling instead of standing his ground. What a pansy.

Rules are rules. Don't like to follow rules? Stay the hell outta the courtroom, Pizza Boy.

A rare event

I agree with Greg

That kid could have caused a mistrial and caused the taxpayers a huge sum of wasted money.

I wonder if his job will still be waiting for him when he gets out of jail

Having been in courtrooms, I can tell you that the process is one of respect and following of rules as laid down by the Judge - he/she sets the tone of what is expected - and observing proper etiquette and courtroom conduct.

There are formal processes for everything that goes on during a trial or hearing. Lawyers have to ask permission to do things (for example, "Can I approach the bench, Your Honor?" is required and enforced).

So, for this person to assume that his attitude would not get picked up on is inherently stupid. He earned what he deserved.

If you're gonna flip someone off, you'd better be prepared to back it up if called on it.

He wasn't.

Judge deserves a beer for treating him like the little spoiled brat that he is.

LOL, the Birdman of Orlando traded 6 days of freedom for a tour of the talk shows when he gets out. He provided his employer, TGiF with a million dollars worth of free advertising, and probably will make many times his fine in extra tips from the sympathetic patrons when he returns. Judge Perry is certainly a no nonsense judge, but honestly, this sentence was somewhat draconian for the crime of flipping off an attorney. (Which, we've all wanted to do at one time or another)

I doubt the impact (personally OR for the employer) will be as extensive as you think.

He's not the JetBlue steward.

Actually not draconian. The rules of the court are very clear, and most judges would have been equally "harsh" - the difference here is that the event was recorded.

Yes, flipping off a lawyer can give you a good feeling of empowerment ... just don't do it in the courtroom specifically when a Judge is present. :chuckle:

I recently attended a trial (non-criminal) as a witness in a Federal Court in Washington, and the lawyers sat down with all of us witnesses (and the defendants) beforehand and went over the decorum and rules of the Court very clearly. :yesnod

Yep, while it's somewhat expected in NJ to extend the middle finger (+honk the horn and shout anatomically impossible expletive filled suggestions) at any driver in front if they do not instantly move the moment a light turns green, flipping the bird in a courtroom is a huge no-no. Kid was an idiot.
