So I posted a while back saying my diff. was most likely experiencing failure. Well it was way beyond that when i took her out. Metal everywhere, teeth missing. Nothing a lil glue won't fix

At least yours did not blow up on you while you were driving at 60mph like mine did and a carrier bolt works its way loose and rip through the casing like it was butter. All I heard was a snap but car still drove fine then 30 secs later all I hear is something like a metal chain being dragged behind the car. Pulled over and found parts all over the road.

Did you recently change that diff? The pumpkin looks pretty shiny and new on the outside... nothing like mine. A few months ago I drained mine and refilled with synthetic gear oil as a preventative measure.

These things seem to be failing at an increasing rate nowadays.... a sign of the aging of our vehicles. Love her while you can for one day she will be gone......

**EDIT** ....never mind the question.... Rsiwicki snuck in a few pics of his old exploded diff and I didn't realize!

My 1st diff last 235k before the noise began, the 2nd one has ~~135k now [after 70k of my use].

To stretch the life you need annual fluid changes......for sure there is a collection of metal on the magnet each year.

T3 has a new tech who has extensive recent experience in maintaining Ford, GM, and other Police vehicles for the State contractor......we are relearning why not Ford, GM.

no metal shavings

Are you saying that a white paper towel used to clean the magnet on drain plug showed no black film..........this is the fine microscopic metal wear.

If not this is the first differential in 40 years I've seen that doesn't wear.

I always use synthetic diff lube anything else is asking for reduced life.

However 99% last thru 100,000 miles even with oem fluids.
