Explain heat ranges to me

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I assume you are talking about spark plugs.

Higher heat ranges retain more heat at the electrodes. Too much is bad as it will promote detonation. Colder heat ranges then run cooler, which is better for higher compression or NOS/Boosted motors, but if too cold, will have a hard time burning off carbon deposits off the electrode.

sorry i went to edit my post and i guess i deleted everything i wrote but u were right i was talkin about spark plugs. i just didnt really understand why u need different heat ranges.

now i understand much better. so if u go with too cold of a plug it will jstu foul the plug but wont hurt the engine? and colder plugs are higher numbers from what i've been thinkin, correct?

yeah on ngk's that is. some other plugs go the other way. so check and make sure before you buy some other kind.

so stock heat range is 5, would 7 (pdm-racing.com) be good for a KA-T running 8-12psi?

Yup. BCP7ES or BKR7E would be good.
