Just wondering if anyone has experience with this turbo from turbocalculator.com? When is the boost threshold achieved? What is it's power potential at varying psi values?

How does a .48 a/r turbine affect the flow on the compressor map as compared to a .63 a/r turbine?

IMO the .63 is such a good match for the KA motor. It still spools quick enough that the car is not laggy and it has a nice flow up top when you are ready to push big numbers. If you are never going to push big numbers (which you will end up doing whether you say you wont now) then it would be a nice choice if you are looking for quicker spoolup. Personally I like a bit of lag on a turbo so the damn thing doesnt boost ever time you get on the gas, only when you want it.

Well I guess I could always just swap the turbine housings later on. I am able to get this thing new for about half price so I think I'll just give it a shot anyway.

well ya, if you can get a new one for half the price, it would add good reason for getting it. Just make sure its not some fake china made copy.

I've heard some bad things about turbo calculator. Just search around on ka-t.org

virus77: haha no kidding man.

I emailed zhy-turbos.com about it and they said that was there old design from 2 years ago. Since then they have made a few improvements, namely having a 1 piece compressor housing and others I assume.

They said they would send me out a new version of their T3/T4 so I guess we'll see if these guys will do better after a second chance.

They screwed me over personally, back when I was going to fab up kits and sell them, I looked into doing bussiness with them...lets just say I changed my mind with the quickness. Nuff said about that.

On with the .48 or .63 debate. I have the .63 with the 50 trim. There isn't any lag to speak of really. Most people who talk of lag haven't driven a car that actually has a lag problem. If you're building boost on the way to to 3000rpm, then you don't have lag, if you don't have boost till over 5000, then you may look into a new turbo.

Here's my theory. Either go with a straight T3 and have basically instant boost but aren't looking for anything in access of 280 or so WHP, or go with a bigger turbo and deal with a touch of lag. I think the T3/TO4E in .63 AR is perfect for a daily.
