So, I am gonna replace the shot suspension and get new tires on my Pathy. I have 189,000 miles on it and I am 99.9 percent sure that the current Shocks/struts/springs have been there for every mile. Rear shocks are rusted to hell, and soft as mushy potatoes. I get front end dive when under normal breaking, sag in the rear and stopping in reverse creates a bouncing effect that goes on way to long. My control arm bushings are all good for now with very little wiggle when I grab on em and pull/twist and no death wobble. So with it in mind that I will probably need an impact wrench as well as a few other tools I don't have in order to do the suspension. And I will need to take it in to a shop to go up on the lift for tire mounting. What would be better? Me doing the suspension, or someone else.
I am reasonably mech savvy. I have not needed any professional help so far, thankfully, but wonder if this would be one better left to the pros. There is a shop here in town that specializes in 4x4 suspension that has a good reputation and say that they will install anything that I bring in. I find myself going back and forth on this so I thought I would ask and see if there are some good/bad/ugly tales of one or the other. Thanks all! Max

bought some of those MOOG springs for my rear..."constant..."
and I installed myself...had to buy
1.Spring compressors (buy the sturdy /heavy duty kind)
2.and a 19mm? splined ratched for tight spaces to move the spring compressor

the install went fine just that the passenger side was hard vs the driver side..tight spaces
I had the option to remove the rear shocks on the driver side so that made it easier for me to tighten the spring compressors...but if I ever had to change the rear shocks I know its a VERY easy job...

my struts are fine...
my rear upper trailing arms are shot...SO...I might have to get poly bushings soon and have someone else do it...I dont have a press so Id rather have someone who works on SUVs do it for me...

OH...yes I used an IMPACT Wrench and an air ratchet whenever the space was available...made the spring compression quick....also a breaker bar helps in removing those rusty stuck shock bolts..

Thanks, i think I may do the rear myself and then have a shop do the struts and front springs. I know I will need an alignment after those struts get replaced so I might as well have them do it right and save myself the hassle. Thanks again for the response.
