so I just got my stock TT not even a month ago and promised not to do any damn thing to it... but after the Pop-charger went in, maybe one more mod wont hurt. I am looking into upgrading the ECU mainly from Z1, Ashspec, and Ztuner. The only site that suggested HP gains was Ztuner (60- 80 HP), but I dont know if that is on a stock car. I know most of these tunes are damn near the same from what Ive read so apparently it comes to the buyers preference. I prob wont be able to afford any more upgrades for a while, since I still owe some money on it. Exhaust cost way much for me, since I used to pay $150 shipped for the S14 from Ebay and I actually like the quiet ride for once. Down pipes and e-cut outs are the only feasible upgrade that I see in the real far future. So here go the real questions:

1. What kind of gains am I to expect with just the pop charger?2. Is it even worth while to upgrade the ecu on a stock car?3. Does an upgraded ecu affect reliability of the car?4. Which company do you guys prefer the most? Ashspec, Z1, Ztuner

Thanks for any input!

ecu flash and boost jets will get you an extra 5 or 6 psi so depending on what additional mods you have you'll probably see from 30-40whp off of a stock ecu. Also depends on the tune. Upgraded ECU set to run at higher boost will obviously shorten the lifespan of your turbo's since they are working under more stress than their original design. Most of the aftermarket ecu's are similar in terms of what they do to acheive the gain, so i'd say either z1 or ashspec, depending on which can get it to you cheaper.

About 10 mins away from the Freehold Mall. On the tuner sites, they say that they will provide 2 psi boost jets. Is that at all true, or is it much more. Also, the AShspec, Z1, Ztuner tunes all go for $250.. so again it looks as if its a buyers preference, though Ztuner doesnt provide a "safety map" in their tunes. So looks likes it down between Ash and Z1. Keep the input comming, its greatly appreciated!

As far as upgrades, for the the biggest hp gain for the money you cant beat a chip and boost jets. Personally i like the jwt and z1 chips which i think both raise the boost to around 13.5-14. Although the extra boost does put extra stress on the turbos and other various parts of the car it will not signifigantly decrease the life of the turbos as long as you drive it within in reason and arent running it wot all of the time. A pop charger will gain you roughly 4-7 whp with the chip. And although boost jets are a form of raising the boost, they definently arent the most reliable or consistent way of doing it. I would recconmend dropping the extra cash and getting a decent electronic boost controller and while your at it an after market boost gauge probably wouldnt be a bad choice to have a more accurate idea of how much boost your running.

nice, thanks for the response. A boost gauge is a must, I know lol. Ill try the boost jets that are provided with the reflash at first and prob bite the bullet later on for EBC. Thanks!

Any other users out there with differnt brand reflashes??

ok so update... I went ahead and order the Z1 ECU today. I was trying to get in touch with ASH, but he wouldnt answer my email or numerous IM's. My question now is, Z1 sends 15psi boost jets. Do you guys think that is a bit too much? should I get the JWT 13.5psi boost jets instead? The guy at Z1 that I talked to said that with the 15psi boost jets, I should see 35-40whp gain and that the car handle that much boost. Just wanting to know what you guys think of the PSI from Z1...

Thanks, George

boost jets aren't anything special, Go get a boost controller and forget the boost jets. You can actually go to lowes or homedepot, well pretty much any hardware store and buy boost jets, they are small pieces of metal that fit in the vaccum lines. 15psi i believe would be the limit for stock 370cc injectors.

Get a decent electronic boost controller. Boost jets don't give you any control over what's happening. Good control is the cheapest insurance for your engine.I bought a Blitz SBC-idIII and it is fantastic. If you don't have access to dyno tuning, be careful how much boost you run. I would say 15 max if you have 94 octane in your area.
