Hy boys,

Ik have question,

A friend of my has a S13 whit S14A engine. After a full speed run at the highway ( i don't know the RPM or speed but over 130 mph or 210kmh) we pull over at the gas station because the engine suddenly lost power. At the moment the engine was running at 1.2 bar turbo pressure. We poppet the hoot and i notice that the exhaust manifold was red-hot glowing. Could it bi the engine is running to lean? And what if the engine is running lean are there any Safetys at the ECU?

Yes, way lean I would say. You have far surpassed the range of the mass air meter and the stock 370cc injectors. TURN THAT b**** DOWN! I would say that is over the efficiency range of the turbo too but I run an s14 t28 and 18lbs for over a year with no problems and I pound on the car. I have a z32 mafs, 550cc injectors and a rom tune though... Hope that you didn't melt a valve or burn a hole in a piston!

How much boost is safe te run whit the stock injectors and lmm? And are there any Safety feathers on the ECU if it is running to lean? I think the stock elbow can olso make the EGT's go up?

Free boost upgrade? Yeah if your on stock injectors at 1.2 bar you are definitely running lean.

When I bought my SR'ed 240SX several years ago, the kid told me that it was running 14lbs (on stock t25, stock fuel, stock MAF, etc). On the way home, I check the boost gauge and it actually was running 1.4BAR (near 20lbs). eek!

As far as I know, there is no cutoff or safety mechanism on the SR for overboost or lean condition. I can tell you that when I drive hard (like at a track event) even at .8BAR I have made my manifold glow, and that was with perfect AFRs (according to my Innovate Wideband). I think after prolonged boost the stock manifold can get heatsoaked and begin to glow.

Makes sense. Ive seen it before on perfect afrs as well but either way i would set it back to stock boost and try to eliminate some problems to see if anything is not functioning properly.

Hot Tamale manifold?

Check your base timing, I'd bet 3 bags of Cheetos that it's off by at leat 4-5 degrees.

FWIW: A glowing stock manifold is usually always mis-set timing.
