Alright, forget about the subject of the thread, My question here is which exhaust is the best for the KA24E 1989 240sx. I've done some reasearch and found exhausts from blitz, apex, greddy, and hks. There are also a few others out there. People tell me the HKS HIPER is the best . .but for my particular engine . .is that definately true? I just want to make sure that I'm getting the best exhaust for my car ,because they do cost a lot . . . upwards of 600 to 700 even. Some of the exhausts like the hks are around 450 or so. Please let me know, I plan on purchasing an exhaust for my naturally aspirated KA24E soon.

PS - The guy I bought my 89 240sx from told me that the exhaust on it is an HKS Dragger exhaust . .any sure way to find out??? And if it is . .is that a good exhaust or a bad one? And should I buy a new exhaust or leave it? I'm looking not for perfection here . .but more for value and quality . . since this will be a daily driver

For the KA i'd definately go HKS and as far as telling if you had some aftermarket HKS stuff on your car already should be easy. The tip should be fairly big along with the muffler, should be mandrel bent and the welds would be all purdy and if you clean it up a bit im sure you could find HKS on it somewhere.

the HKS hiper is 2.5" and that is why i recommended it to him for the KA engine. Im not sure how big the dragger is but if its already on his car then why change it?

Doogz . . ZalanBUD? Nismo_Freak? Yeah. It does have a dragger on it, but I'm not sure if it's an HKS Dragger or a normal one . .(generic) . . it's 4.5" though.

PS - Here's a pic of the "CUSTOM INTAKE" that the guy put on it. It says Magna Flow so I don't know. I checked Magna Flow out and they dont make a system for the 89 240sx... I'm thinking of getting the Injen... What do you guyz think???

The HKS dragger tip is 4.5", the pipe itself should be 2.5" which should do just fine for ya. Its like a 600 and some dollar exhaust if its the real thing. Here's a pic for ya to compare http://www.hksusa.com/images_products/1395.jpg

It's hard to tell and im not really much of an intake buff. What does it do on the right of the pic there...it almost looks like it goes into some more plastic piping that is pinched, is this the case? If the plastic does get drastically smaller then that would be a killer to the performance of that intake.

It goes down towards the front of the car. It doesn't get pinched .. maybe just a little.

It doesn't look horrible, I mean i've seen worse but you probably could do better if you just really want to replace it.

Yeah, I think I'll go ahead and buy the injen intake. But there's something I was wondering about that also . . . the injen intake is a "SHORT RAM" system . .and that means it's short . . so it doesn't go to the best location to get air . .which means I need an extension . .but according to every website i've gone to . .the extension is for 91 - 94 240sx's . . . help me out with that confusion please

It is true the cold air intake will bring in cooler air and being as it is a longer pipe it is tuned more for midrange power (if i remember correctly) But a short ram intake is still better than the stock intake. As far as not being able to use the extension i am not sure. I doubt there is that much difference between the KA24DE and KA24E to cause the problem. Im thinking more like there is a hole missing down by the bumper to where the extension is meant to run. But i am not sure on this and i don't have a 91+ car to cross reference it with. Sorry i could be of more help on this one.

Dude, you have what looks like a very decent cold air intake. Leave it alone, and don't mess with it unless it's broken or something. Most cold air intakes available for the KA-E (DE) are pretty much the same, and just because the sticker doesn't say "Blits" or "Apexi" on it doesn't mean it's not good. It's all just a few pipes, connected with rubber/silicone connectors. So u've bought the car with an intake and exhaust. LEAVE IT ALONE. Unless you are planning for other mods that would require you to change those parts. (Not just you wanting to get a different brand/sticker on either part). If you get another intake it will be a waste of money. Don't get mods just for the sake of getting mods.End of story.

Okay. So my intake and exhaust is good. My car thogh . . sounds really bad. I mean it sounds loud but it sounds like the exhaust is farting, like a motorcycle. It isnt a constant sound . .more like a shot gun firing spontaneously sound. Besides that . . the car has an idling problem .. due to something. I don't exactly know what or why and I am not a mechanic, nor do I have the car insured so I can take it to a mechanic . . if someone could tell me what I need to buy and replace and how to replace it . .that would be great . . PLEASE HELP!!!
