My car has been running like crap for a while and I'm soo lost right now it really sux! Here's the history of what my motor has been through and mods.

Motor was rebuilt(shot bearings) and installed by a half ***ed mechanic. Z32 Maf, AFC-Neo, Fmic, cometic HG, uncir. BOV, pully's, walbro 255....

Car was not tuned and ran, but never pulled. Turbo would spool perfectly and sounded great just no go!! The car did run rich for about 7k miles because of no tune. When I had the oil changed one time the oil smelled like gas and was a lil liquidy. I put Royal p in it now and can't really tell a difference. But now the problem is after cleaning the iacv valve it hasn't ran right since. We completely rewired the harness just beacause it needed it anyway. The ecu gives codes for Maf and Tps but I replaced the tps when I first got the car back and the maf was replace from z32 to sohc. We took out the afc as well and the car still doesn't run. So I did a compression test and 156 on all 3 cylinders but #4 would go from 170-160-165-156-170. I was told that is because of an exhaust valve being stuck. I know that I need to take the intake and iacv valve off and clean them out but what is the damn problem with this motor? What is my next step? And what is it most likely that the problem is?

All help is greatly apprieciated!!

It's possible that there could be some carbon lodged in the valve seat that's preventing the valve from seating properly, but that would give you low numbers not high. If the valve was stuck closed, then you'd have a bent valve and valve guide. Which would obviously require the head to be torn down.

So what do I tackle first Bart? I'm saving money to get it fixed and don't want to waste that money on stuff that doesn't apply.

It's a tough one to diagnose. You could pull the valve cover and check the valve guides on that cylinder to see if any are bent. And then roll the cams over and check the heights at full compression. Just some ideas that don't require dismantling your motor.

Exactly what I was looking for Bart. I'll report back in the next couple days.

Any other ideas out there that I can check with the valve cover off. It seems like I'm going to have to rebuild but any other options would be outstanding!

If the motor isn't tapping or making any weird noises then I would take care of the electrical problems 1st and see where that gets you. When you say it doesn't pull do you mean you can't rev past a certain rpm or is it just lacking power? If theres a bad circuit on one of the sensors it would put the ecu in fail safe. Unplug the tps and maf try adjusting the idle screw and double check the timing.

After cleaning the iacv it wouldn't rev over 3k. I had a friend come over and set the tps and rewire the maf. He got it to rev over 3k and was able to drive again. Still lacking the power it drove. The next mourning the old (clipped) maf wire caught on fire (thanks giving day) and was real lucky. No damage, just to the old wires and thats when i put a new harness in. So it ran that night for about an hour but crapped the next day after 15 min. Hope that helps w/ something...

Its lacking the power. How can I learn to check the timing myself? That would be the shyt if I could do that myself.

Download the fsm for the s14 sr20 its the same for the s13. If you're lazy just try turning the cam angle sensor fully counter clockwise. Don't beat on it if it doesn't sound tuned well.
