Im looking at the exhaust side of this here z31 turbo and i realize i will have to get something fabbed for the downpipe connection. There seems to be this valve that adjusts the exhaust flow coming out of the turbines, powered by the pressure coming from the intake side. If i take the downpipe connection off, the valve goes with it too. Is it nessesary to recreate this valve or can i do without. And there is nothing in search for this question either. Thanx

on integral turbos, there a device called ana ctuator valve(wastegate for purpose name-calling) and that isnot something you want to mess with

Ive never seen a Z3 turbo, so my experience is next to none, but ill just say that while your engine builds boost, that valve is closed, and a good boost controller will open that up immedietly before you reach full boost, and will open/close according to manifold pressure(boost), so that it maintains a set boost level

It's call a bleeder valve and it controls the boost so I would keep the down pipe and replace the valve with a eletronic solenoid.

Here's a pic of what he's talking about, it's the piece on the left.

This is my Z31 turbo that will be on my car soon. Nevermind how dirty it is, it's all cleaned up now. You can use that elbow, but the turbo will have to be mounted kind of on the bottom of the manifold in order for it to mount up correctly. You should be able to find a flange that can bolt to the three studs coming out of it, and fab a downpipe to bolt up to it. I've been told the elbow is cast steel, so it can be welded to. I am thinking of cutting it off where it would come straight off the turbo, and welding an exhaust flange onto it. This would allow me to build a downpipe and mount the turbo on top of the manifold.

umm yeah you have it exactly... But are there any options to converting to a standard wastegate? I dont like the look of that rod coming across to the valve and getting stuff fabbed for this setup is going to look kinda ugly too. ANY IDEAS?

Use something like this.

Be careful though, because I'm not sure if the z31 turbo has a standard bolt pattern. I think it could be different, because it has 7 studs instead of 5.
