i just found a new trick for my exhaust today.... i have 2.5" cat-back to a magnaflow muffler and i also replaced the flat piping before the cat with 3" piping. i love the way my car sounds (it's not too loud or anything) but on the hwy going 70 MPH i get horrible drone...... it gets pretty bad and i need to get some sound deadening. today i was on the hwy going 70 and i cracked open my electronic exhaust cut-out just a tiny bit and my car got dead silent! like maybe even quieter then stock

I'm still trying to understand how this electronic cut off works.

So after your heads you have two exhaust pipes??

Im thinking you have two pipes connected to the header, one that is shortened (Like in your pic, btw its a good pic) and the other pipe leads into your exhaust. (The second pipe being legal). So when you hit the button, you have two valves that move. One that closes the original legal pipes and the other one that opens the shortened one in your picture?

Is that how it works?

That must be pretty cool.

Yeah man, I've been wondering about this ever since I saw ur sig. Could u please explain more in-depth how this works (and the legalities of it lol)

thanks for the compliment about the pic.... your close. think of it as a regular exhaust system and before the cat i have a hole cut in the side of the pipe and then a pipe connected to it right there (thinking about later on just putting a little "Y" pipe there to help the flow) and then at the end of the shortened pipe i have a valve. the valve stays closed and the exhaust is normal. then when i open it up with a switch mounted in the car, the air flow has the option to go out the side or through the muffler and the opened valve is not restricted so most of the air goes out the side.

exhaust cut-outs are more well known on Turbo cars and ppl usually say theres almost no benefit to have it on a N/A car but with the 3.5se it makes a big difference. i got the idea after unbolting my exhaust at the track one day lol i went from a 14.4 to a 13.912 (almost a 13.8). so i made my car like .5 secs quicker by doing this.

honestly i don't know how legal it is... i mean with the valve closed its like you dont even have it. so as long as you keep the valve closed on the streets or don't let a cop hear you with it open i don't see why there would be an issue.... i did it just so i don't have to get under my car every time i go to the track and when i'm going to leave the track..... i'll admit that i have opened it up on the streets before though

here's a little vid that sort of shows the difference in sounds.... not the best vid but at least you get some sort of idea.... when the camera man walks towards the back thats when i'm closing the valve

ya that's true, you do lose a some low end power but it really helps with the higher RPMs and especially with CVT just sitting at almost redline the whole way down the track. it's cool to have the switch cuz you can have it loud or quiet just by hitting the switch. you can improve low end power by closing it and you can improve top end by opening it

Is possible to have a local muffler shop do electric cut-off for me ? How much does it cost ?

it's made by QTP and it cost me $171 shipped. then i took it to a local muffler shop and they charged me $60 for the cutting and welding of the piping. me and my friend ran the wiring (it was pretty easy). so it cost me $231 plus running the wires myself.
