so i took it to the shop today, they said i needed basically new tubing from the cat back. they are taking out the middle muffler, fabricating some new mounts, and putting a new rear muffler on there. they are also bending the tubing themselves, but too bad its not mendrel. o well, i dont think it would make that much of a difference.

around $180 for it all and less if they can use the aerospeed muffler i have now. not bad considering the first shop i went to asked 750 bucks for it. i said uh uh, no thanks, i paid less than that for the car. i can cover the whole price, plus some cuz i get paid on friday(i take it in on thursday). this is the first time i have been able to do a major repair on this car w/out borrowing money from my mom and pop. i have to drive a pos corolla for a few days, but big deal, i drove it for a month and a half when it wouldnt start.(more on this below) i cant wait to see how it sounds!!

so the whole not starting for a month and a half. yeah, the previous owner totally f'd up this car. there was a wire spliced into the ignition coil harness, that ended up going through the firewall and down under the carpet. i found the wire when i was rewiring the previously not working foglights. i basically pulled all the blue wiring and redid it and the wire that was the culpret, was blue...so i pulled on the wire, and found that there was nothing else on the other end, im like wtf is this doin here. so i cut the wire off, and poof, it starts the first crank. i was so happy i almost pissed my pants. but it took me a month and a half to find out that it was just one friggin wire. i dont even know why the wire was there, and i cant think of anything that would be hooked up to it that could have been in the car. still havent thought of anything.

anyway, ill update this when i get the car back on thursday.

paul

edit: so i just thought of something, my friend (who was the prev owner's neighbor) said he had a shift light in there. but of course he took it out. my guess is that was what that wire was for, but im not sure, fill me in if im right or wrong...thanks

LOL - good work, zdude!

Believe it or not, I miss those days - Ghetto car-fixes that cost half your paycheck, and the other half goes to gas, just so you can drive around... Yeah, FREEDOM!

Enjoy, brotha. Before you know it you'll be old and responsible. :(

:D

wait, ghetto car fixes?? what are you talking about. im taking the car in to do the exhaust, not puttin some clotheshangers on there to hold it up for a few days. if your talking about the wiring, that wasnt really ghetto on my part, it was ghetto on the prev. owners part. i fixed his ghettoness, which is all over the car still

so i got the exhaust fixed. the muffler looks homemade, its definetly not a name brand. and the tubing curves a lot and its not really that straight. but what can i expect for a hundred bucks?? at least i dont have anymore holes that pop like a motherf'r. it sounds really nice too, perty low rumble on idle, and nice v6 whine on acceleration. the tip isnt that big either, its definitly not the 4 inch tip that i had before, its more like 2.5ish... ill get pics up as soon as my computer is fixed.

I had both my friends do hydraulic bends for 55 bucks, straight pipe. All you have to do is tell the guy what you want.
