A test pipe is just a piece of exhaust pipe that you put in place of the catalytic converter. Unless you have emissions inspections, I doubt you'd get cought. If you remove the cat, it will likely set the check engine light for the rear O2 sensor.

A high flow cat should not set the CEL. If you want better sound, get a cat-back.

Yeah, I bought a high-flow cat and I've had the catalytic inefficiency SES light come on periodically ever since. It'll stay on for 250 miles, then go off for 250 miles. Sometimes it doesn't go off for a good 500 miles. It's been a pain, but not giving up. Next thing I'm gonna try is an O2 simulator.

A simulator is definitely the way to go if the CEL/SES light comes on for that particular fault.

If it's the catalytic inefficiency SES light, which O2 sensor do I put the O2 simulator on? The 99's don't have an O2 sensor in the cat itself, so which sensor monitors the cat? My guess is the one closest to the cat???

Nah, sorry, no test pipes are gonna replace the pre-cats, unless you know a great fabricator that can fab a y pipe for you. Chances of that are pretty slim and as far as being cheaper than just simply buying a y pipe, even slimmer! Warpspeed $250-$275.

So a Y pipe would replace the pre cat?

Yes, your 2000 max has 2 pre-cats, one for each cylinder bank. From 1999-2008, all maxima's are CA emission spec maxima's, which means there are some more O2 sensors, but what it means for us modifiers is that when you replace the y-pipe, you're only replacing bank 2's precat. The only way to replace both is if you got headers with it, which takes out the pre-cat in bank 1. But in your 2000 max, getting and aftermarket y-pipe will in turn give you a good 12-15 wheel hp and possibly more if you have other mods. Totally worth it, I have mine from Warpspeed and the sound and power is awesome.

i will be very upfront and honest with you. went through 5 exhausts on my 95 max. one of which was the N1. that was the 2nd worst out of all 5. put that thing on craigs list or in the classifieds and get something worth buying.

get a high flow from cattman , and you can also get headers and cat back from there.
