I'm new to this and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? Who offers a good cat back exhaust for a 1994 q45?

Check out this one. This would be about the least expensive way to go if you like it. All that's done here is removal of the "suitcase" muffler in the back and installation of new tail pipes w/nice tips.

Back in 1998 we used a dual in dual out Dynomax Ultraflow [2 straight thru mufflers in one stainless housing] to replace the rear muffler.....use 2 Chrysler bands for mounting -- weld tabs on bands to avoid welding to the pretty stainless.

http://www.a-1performance.com/...3.htm

The stainless 17280 runs $190 plus the straps and welding

Great sound and a few more HP without attracting too much attention.

The oem system is very good and lasts forever considering the lowish potential gains from mods it is not a significant bottleneck up to 330HP.

Remember the outflow cannot exceed the inflow so our 274 ci engine doesn't produce even 400 CFM of exhaust and only 300 CFM at 4,000 rpm.

Not very much flow for the oem true dual.

Heres my 90 with 50 series Flowmaster. Not all pretty and stainless, but I like the tone. http://www.sdproducktions.biz/media/qstartup.MOV

I recommend you TEST the back pressure of FLOWMASTER* compared to ULTRAFLOW................you can easily get a 2 HP difference between the two which is very cost effective considering the $100 higher price of the ULTRAFLOW.

* I always refer to the UNFLOWMASTER.

A true low back pressure muffler should show daylight straight thru with nothing to change the dirextion of the flow

You truly have lost me here Dennis....

I never said a thing about mine having superior "flow", nor do I care. I just enjoy the sounds, thats all.

My soap box is performance [precision tested not marketed] not sound, just as some choose big wheels and bling over performance. Just as some have subwoofers and abuse the publics right to Order, PEACE and QUIET.

Isn't the 50 series a single in/dual out? What did you have to do, join the dual pipes into one to connect to the muffler? Sounds good but why would you want to join your dual exhaust into one an then split it into two again.

Here's ready to order a DIDO suitcase muffler to replace the stock unit. I'm looking for a deep tone just to show off the V8 sound. Basically to kick the stock sound up a notch..

I like the Dynomax web site where you can pick the loudness by product. I see a Ultra Flow X that looks interesting -- though I can't sample the sound.

I like the deep tone of the Ultra Flow SS also the Super Turbo for not being too loud as it is possible to get a ticket for a loud exhaust -- Exhaust tickets usually occur along with some other violation. Remediation requires you to replace the loud exhaust and get a police inspection to avoid a hefty fine.

Does anyone know how to order the Chrylser bands that Dennis mentioned in the following post?

Has anyone ordered from a-1performance.com?

Well I'm off to a great start with A1 Performance.

1) Will not answer toll free number -- even before 5:00 PM central time.

2) Non-toll free number rolls to a fax machine.

3) Contact Us web page crashes with some HTML coding errors making it impossible to contact them.. Yep I know "test" is a one of those 4-letter words..

A1 is an outfit that is definately open for business.

LOL!!!

For exhaust options on a G50, i would first recommend replacing the rear suitcase muffler with a dual in dual out of your choice, leave everything else intact. Then cut out the premufflers if its not loud enough!

gut out the precats for a meager performance gain. Honestly i like the quiteness of the exhaust unless you have a 5 speed then up the exhaust a touch. Id rather not be heard coming, rather just fly by quietly and see their jaw drop. Id rather spend more on a 5 speed than spend a penny on non performance enhancing exhaust. New crap will probably rust out quicker too.

During the various stages of my turbo install I drove it with fewer and fewer exhaust piece. With the suitcase muffler removed it sounded awesome. With the "resonators" or pre mufflers removed it sounded aweful and I stopped driving it until I progressed to have the turbo installed. It was just way too loud and raspy. I imagine removing the precats would be fine but doubt it would change the sound by much.

I think mine is perfect now, no resonators and a T70 turbo in place of the suitcase muffler. Just awesome.... "If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up" ...Ferris Bueller.

I'm really just looking for a deep bubble tone sound. Not too loud just to "kick it up a notch"..

This vid I think is close to the sound I am seeking.

I've got some suspension enhancements lined up next..

With the NICO ECU installed, I really need to kick up the suspension..

I am looking (listen'n) to do the same thing. I was going to replace the suitcase with pipes until I heard this raspy thing...

I will follow Wes's advice and use a dual in dual out... In the spring when she come out of storage.

For $65 bucks I had the suitcase muffler replaced with straights.. I figured if I don't like it, then I can go for a DIDO muffler later on. I was surprised that it produces the sound I like -- not too loud - just a nice deeper tone.. I'll get some stainless tips to dress it up..
So the money I didn't spend on exhaust can now go toward some new Tokicks.

To me the sound in real life is more like the Magnaflow video below.

Sans suitcase muffler video..

I agree! My setup is probably pretty similar to yours without the turbo. I am all straight pipe back to a dual in dual out muffler. If anything I have to say its a little on the loud side, but its not TOO loud. Definitely any time I open the throttle it makes up for any time I think about it making too much noise...

My experience has showed that you want a muffler as close to where the exhaust is exiting for a good sound... The longer the length of pipe after the muffler, the worse it will sound...

Well, I'm not sure of the details of the install in that video but it sounds to me that it was just cold. If just removing the rear muffler and installing pipes you will get that raspy sound but only while the engine is cold. After mine warmed up for just a few minutes it mellowed out significantly. I'd say do the muffler removal w/thru pipes first and you can always add the muffler later if you don't like it.
