Gutted cat, 2" piping, 5" tip.

Oh, and nothing less than a plutonium up-pipe. Pricey, but so worth it.

as loud as possible, because noise = performance.seriously any decent exhaust sounds good, megan racing exhausts are cheap, fit well and sound awesome.any 'n1 style' jdm exhaust sounds good, n1 duals sounds g35 esque imho, i run the buddy club spec 2 on my car.

I had a Megan Racing muffler on my 3" exhaust. Sounded pretty wicked, especially at WOT.

I have a custom 3" exhaust with Hooker Straight through muffler... I have had multiple comments on the sound of it. Nice deep sound to it.

I could make an exhaust out of coke cans with a foldger's can for a tip and it would still sound great. It'd probly look better than most of the fartcans I see on 240's these days too.

I just put the ssac on my car.yeah, it's a little ugly, but it is not particularly loud, and it's just an exhaust, all it really needs to do is route the CO somewhere it won't kill you.vid:

*sigh* measely ol Blitz Nur-Spec. Although, when I bought my 240 it had a add-on muffler from 'otto' with the factory rusted pipes. I assume it is an 'eBay eSpecial'. <semi-thread jack>Anybody have suggestions for a downpipe, or just take it to a shop and have them fab it?

depends on mounts and chassis, really.

I have the tophat mounts/s14 and there was no option. I had to get my o2 housing/downpipe fabbed up. The stock never would have fit, and the ebay housing only fit after I cut it in half.

I think I got a little more ground clearance then most though, so it's not really a bad thing.

The best thing to do for ground clearance is to put a jack on the catback around the sway area... then build the downpipe toward the bolting area and add bends accordingly. This is of course if you are building it yourself, and if you have someone build it for you... I would suggest you ask for that as it aids in the priceless ground clearance of a low car (like mine).

I cut and welded pipe to the factory 02 housing... just be careful and preheat the cast so that you don't crack it. I've done this for all of the exhausts I've built for these motors... hope this helps

tecnic1,

I'm doing an RB25DET S1 into a S-13 (93- with DE) and was planning on using the X-Member / mounts from the R33 Skyline GTS-T clip. From what I remember, the motor stays about an inch higher and forward in the bay, as opposed to using a set of TopHat or McKinney mounts. If I am going to run into serious clearance issues I will order a set of mounts, but I would rather spend the $ on something else (misc parts) if I could. (Although, I could just fab up a set of mounts myself...

rbsileighty,

I like the idea, is that motor in the pics a RB20? Is there a difference between the 20 and 25 dp's? Is it really worth the $240 that McKinney is asking for a DP? My cat-back exhaust is 3", so I assume I should get / fab a 3" DP correct? Thanks for the tip about pre-heating as well!

I know your not talking to me but Im sure I can help if you care. I do believe his RB is a 20 iirc. The RB20/25s are interchangeable. As for McKinneys DP, waste of money because all it is, is a 3" pipe which you could get from ebay for $150 or make your own. Nothing special about that.

i do believe that the mckinney DP is also made to fit with the Mckinney mounts. only makes sence. therefore, if you dont have their mounts, dont buy their downpipe. correct me if im wrong.

Yeah, but their DP is *polished*... *rolls eyes*. That is about as useful as being gold plated or, as the saying "screen-door on a submarine" . not at all =P

I think my mounts created more of a problem clearance wise.. I had issues people don't have with crossmember swaps. My driveshaft was too long, I was hitting the firewall on both sides (not normal on a 20) and the aforementioned required custom 02 housing/downpipe.

having said that, If I had to do it over again, i would still use the mount kit because I am very happy with the location of my engine. I'm an engeneering student and it would have drove me crazy to have the engine in a less then ideal location.

I've posted this before, but here is my downpipe/o2 houseing.

That is a RB20... but the turbo is off of a 25 they are more or less the same anyway

240 isn't bad for the Mack DP... but be sure you use it with their mounts or you might end up with some clearance issues...

I'd say it comes down to how confident you feel in your fab skills...
