so i took off my mani tonite to get the exhaust leak fixed and i kinda took out two exhaust studs out of the block. I didnt have a vise at the house so the nuts are still stuck on the studs. My question is how do i install these properly? Also, do you think the vise will help cuz the nut may be fused onto the stud? Where would i be able to get two exhaust studs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

+1 for screwing them in, it used to always happen to my internal wastegate bolts.

thanks for the help. yall are great. i just got back my mani from the machine shop. this will be try #2 to not have an exhaust leak...............but this time instead of just resurfacing the flange, i had the flange cut to allow room for expandability.....

Use a lock-nut configuration. Take two nuts(one from that stud, one from another stud) and put them both on that stud. Hold one still with a wrench and tighten the other until you get it pretty tight. Then just use a socket or wrench to put the stud back in. May wanna put some thread-lock or something on it too.

well, it may. But why not do it the right way while you have easy access to ensure that you get proper torque on the mani so no more exhaust leaks pop up. Since this is what you're fixing right? I wouldn't trust the way you describe. I tried that on my header and it didnt' work worth a crap. Plus it always gave me that feeling of being right on the edge of stripping the threads out of the head when there was barely any torque on the nut. Not a good feeling. Plus exhaust leaks are the worst.
