There is no decible limit... the laws that allow them to write tickets are local noise regulations. If an officer thinks your exhaust is too loud he will give a ticket for it. You could try taking any ticket to court and say that the state law of 95 decibles overrules the local code. Also point out that the police officer did not record or analyze the sound level and thus could not verify it exceeded the 95 decible limit. The cop would have to travel roughly 25 ft. behind you and measure the noise level. Then he would have to produce this evidence to you if asked. If he produces it ask for the records for the machines maintanance. There are regulations on how often the machines have to be maintained, things like radar/laser guns, etc.
Know the laws and you can usually get out of everything due to the cop's mistakes.
