What is the proper way to measure the sound level of an exhaust? At what distance from the exhaust tip do I need to hold the meter? Do I measure the sound when the engine is idle or at some higher RPM?

Thanx,nomuken.

P.S. If anyone knows how loud their exhaust is, please post.

you hold it 3' from the tips parallel to the tip...

you measure it between 4k and 4.5k RPMS

that will tell you the dbA of your exhaust.... it's usually mesuared @ 4200 RPM... but it varries between the figures I told you.

absolutely correct!

it is 95dbA... if you tested it yourself... then you should add a dbA or so since you can be off...

If you have to get it tested for a ticket.. I sugget get a silencer.. put it on.. go get it tested... pass it... get a sticker... turn the ticket in and then take the silencer off...

keep the records of you passing in the glove box so next time you get pulled over.. you can just show it to the cop saying it passes the law!!!!

that's exactly what I did and going to do...
