So I'm looking into a custom exhaust for my KA-T... this is a T28 turbo build so I'm thinking about Megan turbo elbow and downpipe, solely because its got the flex pipe in it. After that I want all custom, a high flow cat to start then from there I have 2 different ideas... 2.5" to either a 17" resonator to a borla turbo muffler before the rear axle and then a straight pipe to the rear exhaust OR the 17" resonator right before the axle and then the muffler in the stock location. I've never mounted an import exhaust but the first example is how mustangs and a few other domestics are routed. Has anyone tried this? Let me know what you think would be better for sound, ease of installation, legality, etc. And before you say get under the car and look I've got the schematics in front of me, but stuff that looks good on paper doesnt always sound good installed[/novel]

Why not skip the resonator? Are you looking for the straight pipe look? Is that why you are considering mounting the muffler further forward? The stock location has plenty of room, I would advise going from the cat to the stock muffler location with one muffler no resonator and as big as you can afford.

I've heard that the closer the resonator is muffler is the crisper the tone is, just trying to not make my car sound like rice. I love the stock sound, just want something louder without falling victim to the fart can sound

Why go with a custom exhaust when there are so many good cat backs available for the 240? Also, are you doing the work yourself or what? If you are going to have someone fab it up for you it will probably be more expensive than if you just got a cat-back made for our cars.

Also, why do you not like flex pipes? Personally i think a flex pipe is a necessity, i would rather not have my manifold cracking when the motor torques one way or the other under load. Flex pipe ftw..

I am using a flex pipe, at first I wanted to just get a custom downpipe but its easier to replace stuff when ur exhaust isnt all one piece so im getting a megan downpipe with integrated flex pipe. The reason for not getting a cat back is that anything under $500 is a fart can and anything thats not a fart can is hella expensive or crappy build quality. I wanted the rsr exmag thats discontinued but $580 shipped is ridiculous
