Any thoughts on a good exhaust? I've been looking at a Stillen exhaust. I like a deep sound. Thanks!

I have the Fast Intentions exhaust and the note is beautiful. No drone at all and sounds hella sweet when going throught tunnels!

Here's a pic. Please note that this exhaust is a one of kind. It was suppose to go into production for the alti coupe market but never did so I have the only one in existance! :woot:

I'm glad you like the Fast Intentions exhaust, Darryl! Please take care of it as I once did. :dblthumb:

I have to agree with Darryl; but, I'm a bit bias because it was tailored to my specifications such as the higher quality and thickness of steel, the piping diameter size, the longer resonator, the polished piping axle-back, and the mufflers and 4.5" tips to produce a design and sound I was looking for to go with my ED rear bumper and car. Tony, the owner of Fast Intentions, did a great job in building my exhaust in time for 2009 SpoCom(one day before the show). His craftsmanship is superb! Check out Darryl's pictures to see for yourself, those welds are beautiful!

Here is a picture from my 09 SpoCom photoshoot:

You got it Vince! It is one of the best sounding exhaust I've ever heard and the performance is amazing..at least 50hp on the butt dyno  But you're right, the workmanship on this is flawless and it shows. I get complements on it all the time! :dblthumb:

i have the stillen axlebacks and its straight pipped without the resonator, its a really deep sounding exhaust, sounds great but it gets really dronny at times im not sure if its because of the exhaust or its because i removed my resonator! overall it was a great buy but i think the greddys sound better.

I have a Nismo Exhaust. Good luck on finding those exhaust since they discontinued them. Otherwise, the popular ones that are affordable are Top-Speed exhaust, then Stillen.

LOOP! Long time no see, sir!

Of the exhausts that are currently in production for this car, the obvious recommendation is GReddy. Anything from them. Their fit, finish, and quality are among the best. Tanabe makes a fantastic product as well, and the only reason I don't have them right up there with GReddy is because they do not produce a full catback. I have owned exhausts for the Altima Coupe from both companies. Worth the money. If you buy either one it will be the last exhaust you'll buy for the car - you won't wish you had something else unless of course you're just someone who likes changing things up.

I don't recommend the Nismo exhaust from a performance standpoint because as far as exhaust flow goes, the piping is no different from stock - it still uses the randomized crushed points in the piping (but you get better ground clearance this way, so if you're a stance kinda guy then look into one of these). The performance gain in the Nismo comes from the axle-back section and not the piping. You won't notice much of a different with day-to-day driving, but the sound will be different and you'll likely see a couple points on the dyno (unless you have a CVT - then don't worry).

If you have the cheese, you could always sweet talk Tony at Fast Intentions and see if he'll build you one. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed with that. You'll have to wait a while, however. He has a good waiting list. The only reason I bought an Ark for my Z instead of a FI is because the wait time was around 6 months and that didn't gel so well with my instant gratification problem.

Anyway - happy modding!

Here is my youtube clip of the Stillen catback if you haven't already found it on youtube. Honestly would spend the extra money and get something of a more quality build though, but if you're on a budget and want sound Stillen is one of the cheapest.

Your video was actually the one that made me want to buy the Stillen exhaust. Did you get cat-back or axle back?

50hp??? Am I reading this right? I've been told time and time again that exhausts rarely net more than 5hp.

Dude...I said BUTT dyno ... not a regular dyno...

If you still don't get that...give back the Y chromosone... :chuckle:

here's an exhaust I got off Ebay. Looks similar to the Top speed pro 1 exhaust. haven't had any issues with it and love it

yours is a 3.5 though, not sure how that would sound on a 2.5 =\ i do like the way yours sound though.

one thing i'm disappointed now is after getting used to Stillen's it's a bit quiet for my liking now.
especially in the higher rpms, the sound just fades away and engine noise takes over.

That is how a street exhaust is supposed to sound if it is properly designed for performance. My 3.5 with an AEM intake, RL y-pipe, and Greddy Spectrum Elite was all engine and intake noise after 5000 RPM. That means the exhaust is optimized for high end power and you are properly utilizing the extra airflow on the top end of the rev range. Typically when you hear Hondas with fart cans making gobs of noise up top is because that's all a muffler does - make extra noise. Not a performance gain.

Exceptions to the rule of noise up top typically comes in the form of higher displacement engines without resonators or cats. (REAL race car exhausts - not legal for street use).

If you want to make your exhaust a bit louder, grab a Stillen Header for your 2.5. You should still pass emissions (if that is a concern) provided you have a factory test pipe with a cat still mounted.
