I was wondering if any one has ever run a RB20... or just an RB for that matter with muff or cat? I just dropped huge chunk on my suspension, so I'm going to wait for a while for my bank account to cool before I order my JIC Ti setup. So I was just going to weld up a custom 3" setup for the meantime with no cat or muff... as long as it's not stupid loud... it's fine with me. Hybrid's is really quite with his 80mm setup with muff and presilencer, but I don't know how much those are actually taking things down sound wise.

I ran my 25 without the cat and exhaust while I was doing some work on it. I think it will be stupid loud.

I have a 5Zigen Rocket 80mm exhaust (pic here, there's really not much of a muffler) with a Tophat 3" cat. It's not loud at all, sounds beautiful :)

I am in the process of making a custom DP/FP. Hybrid made his own, and it has worked very well... 223rwhp with it, no cat and the JIC 505 SS on there.

I figure I can try it... this is not my daily driver, so if it's not "ricer loud" I think it won't be too bad (at least loud or not it will still sound good). It may be slightly louder than a stocker just due to the fact that I'm running a VG turbo... I guess we will see.

I drove my RB20 open down pipe when I was moving it and it's loud. Not Honda open header loud but loud. My friend has a 3" exhaust and stock cat to Apexi GT spec on his RB25 and it sounds deep and quiet. Wish I wasn't scared to pay tip tax or I'd get a GT sepc too.

What is tip tax? I just sold my TR2 exhaust to a buddy of mine who is getting into the RB scene. That system is a monsterous 3 5/8" dia all the way... I couldn't deal with the monster muffler hanging out back, but he likes it... so that works. I was about to buy the 505S Ti setup, but I just bought the Kei Office Type XT-alpha suspension instead... so my original plans for the JIC Ti is on hold.

I guess if it gets to loud with the straight pipe setup... I can stick something on... we will see... thanks for the help fellas!

Tip tax is like road tax. You have a shiney exhaust tip and you get ticketed for exhaust noise. Road tax is the extra taxes you pay for driving over the speed limit.

Ahh... not down on the new lingo... thanks for the update.

I wonder how much louder it is than a SRT-4 since those don't have mufflers... any idea Yellow?

What about the SRT-4 vs. the open dp?

I'm going to make a custom dp, and have a McCord Electronic 3" exhaust cutout which I can run by a switch in the car. Then I'll have a $35 highflow cat from ebay and a 2.5" exhaust all the way back with a muffler.

Why? Because VA is nuts about exhaust, and anything not stock = ticket. So, this way I can have a very nice sounding car that the cops won't bother, but when I wanna show-off or race I can flip the switch and be loud and gain like 20hp. ;) Best plan I think there is if you want the best of both worlds.

Nick
