Alright,

So I have finally found a shop who can help me with my exhaust issue. Now here is where my question lies

I am going othave them tear out my defective cat and reinforce the weld around the cat. The next thing ill have them do is tear out the exhaust in its entirety and replace with aftermarket piping. I WILL be getting the resonators removed. In doing so i just want to be sure 110% percent that there will be no issues in doing so correct? just a simple pipe replacement.

Not sure if I understand your question exactly, in my opinion, replace the muffler with a Magnaflow. The resonator after the muffler is not needed (at least not on my Path).

removing resonators won't harm anything. resonators, in general, are only there to quiet exhaust note. aren't there some O2 sensors in the resonators or something like that though? i haven't bothered to pay attention to that, honestly. i'm fine with a stock exhaust.

The two oval shaped resonators that sit side by side under the front seats are not catalytic converters. They are resonators. If you can have the factory ones fixed -- thats great. If you have to replace them the aftermarket parts are leas than $100 each -- but you do need them because the fittings for the O2 sensors are on the pipe in front.

The rest of the exhaust is SS - so if you can keep it I would -- the couplings are not SS and rust. I had mine welded when the fittings failed but someone hit me and bent the rear pipe - so I had to replace the the 4 main parts.

No experience with removing the middle resonator -- normally the nose and the back-pressure are a "no no" in my book. The aftermarket exhaust parts are not expensive.

Good Luck

What you are referring to as the catalytic converter is actually the resonator that yeldogt is talking about. You cannot split the catalytic converter on the R50 because they are cylindrical and have no seams. When you take the vehicle to the exhaust shop they will dismiss the resonators as catalytic converters, tell them to cut the pipe off after the resonators and look inside. You just need to do a full cat back exhaust system. Somewhere on the forums I posted a picture of what the exhaust system actually looks like, I'll see if I can find it.

ive ben to the shop while doing an alignment, and i showed them. they went wtf when they saw 4 "Cats" and i explained it was resonators. They looked it up and understood so next time i go in to do the exhaust ill tell them from the cats back. What size piping should i go? I was debating between 2.5 and 3....
