Thats the resonator(? sp)

It helps keep the noise level from the exhaust down.:ylsuper

Well, I did the inverse. My stock muffler had a hole in it and whistled under load, so I cut it off. It is pretty loud, but not too bad with only the presilencer in there. It only gets stupid loud if you are really in it. I had a cop follow me one time, obviously waiting for me to do something wrong (100% stock car, minus the "exhaust mod") the way he was following me, and he never pulled me over. I turned off into my neighborhood after a few turns with him following me, and he just kept on going.

I have my GReddy TR2 setup waiting to go on, but I'm not going to put a 4" (tapers from 3-4") on a stock KA... waiting until the RB, that is also in the shop, goes in the car first.

you might as well have them replace the resonator. its gonna cost you about just as much to have them replace it with a pipe, plus itll be loud as hell if you dont.

You are talking about the thing between cat conveter and exhaust right? If this is the case, I can tell you exactly what happens....It did same exatct happened to me so what I did was I took it to my friends shop and we just cut off the muffler part only. (Mine was rust also, and got poped). After that we replaced the muffler part with straight pipe and welded. It works just fine.Plus, it is not loud at all. To tell you the truth, it is lil bit louder than stock set up but nothing like you can consider as loud.Good thing was it feels like resposes better when I step on accelerator~it could be just the feeling but who knows~Good luck!!

Since you dont have much time, this is the best way to do it. If you dont like it then u can just change it with some aftermarket stuff after u get register and inspection done!! It should cost you no more than $30. I spent nothing because me and my friend did the whole thing and there are million pipes laying on the shop floor. If you know any mechanic, he can prolly do it for u for nothing~~
