I've done a search but could not find the post on the valve on the exhaust pipe near the muffler. Someone posted about wiring it open.Thank you.

I know that post was from "Caug"...and after much thought, I finally jacked up the car about 2 months ago to see what he was talking about. Anyway, I saw the valve plain as day as he described, just on the inside of the rear passenger side tire, and I wired mine open. I noticed some slightly louder sound upon revving the engine while in park, and I think...(szhosain will probably tell me it's all in my head), but I think it does improve overall gas mileage...I have NOT changed my driving style...and I used to get around 15-16 mph, and now I am consistantly getting around 17.5 mpg. It makes sense when Caug explained how it "breaths" better, since it doesn't open until something like 4800 rpm or something like that. Good luck, if you choose to look for it, you will find it, it is a nut looking thing with a wire on the exhaust pipe from what I remember. Either way, I eyeballed it, and forced it to stay open with the help of some safety wire, and a few Budweisers.

Who, me? Nah, if the measurement is indeed real, then good!

I'd just be concerned to make sure that your remove this modification before you go in for any emissions testing! Might affect the results ... in a not-good way.

Now before anything else is said, in most states this is illegal due to the fact that is an illegal alteration of the exhaust system and will in most cases fail emissions inspection. Although it doesn't alter the flow of the exhaust it just seems to regulate back pressure.

With that said, the valve opens from its normally closed position when the valve control unit receives throttle position input to open. It's a pretty simple setup.

Saeed asks a good question.... what's up with that charger?

Even the hemi's are turtles? I've picked on more than one and laughed at them when they tried to chirp them off the line.

Most recently, I watched one all dressed up in daytona stripes try to chirp it. I let them run through first 30 ft, and then I see them in my mirror. Hell...I had time to see them get on it, kill the VDC and then clamp down on it myself.

Maybe I'm getting people who just want to stomp on it to 20mph and then run home?

Yea, Chargers are slow unless it was an SRT8.

I got smoked by a Dodge Ram Hemi, he was creeping on the right side and I didn't expect him to try to pass me on the right, he had a bit of a running start and I had VDC on, but it was infuriating. He made a right turn at the next light, so no chance for redemption

Unless somebody in the inspection place knows about this valve, Id bet on NO!, then I would not worry about doing anything to this at all. You could get rid of it even and nobody will ever know. And no, this will not affect emissions in any way.

Well as it was explained to me, the charger suffers from heat with the plastic intake. So if the temp is over 160 the charger starts to loose a lot of power. So when i raced the guy the temp was around 145. He pulled and kept pulling until i hit 3rd gear, by that time he was 3 cars out. Because of my ego we had to run again. THis time his temp was around 210. I beat him by half a car.

What I did Cake was pull the lever all the way back until the valve is fully open, then tie some safety wire around the valve while its still in the open position. If you have two people it would be ten times easeir to do, becasue the valve is spring loaded and is always trying to fight you. Hope it helps. It really only takes bout ten minutes. lata

I know that there would be little to no effect on output emissions. What I was sort of curious about was the effect of the valve on back pressure and valve overlap, since there is no ERG system on the M. It was more of a thought out loud since there is no information in the ESM. I have yet to see one in the shop with it either a defeated valve or the exhaust replaced with an aftermarket setup.
