Honestly, I'd stay away from constructing your own exhaust. Many aftermarket companies have struggled to any significant power through an exhaust upgrade. In fact, many have made and released products that actually lose power. It's pretty apparent that it requires much higher level engineering or at least some trial and error (maybe some luck) to get any gains. Unlike most cars, the simpler rules for exhaust design doesn't seem to work too well on the VQ. My recommendation would be to either stick to the stock exhaust or save up for an exhaust known to make more power than stock...
