ok, so My exhaust is in some need of some major help. Corrosion got the best of it.

Ive been looking at the Megan Racing Catback and the Pacesetter Monza Exhaust for my 98 Maxima AUTO.. yeah I know

I've searched around on here and I haven't really found much that really explains It all. Theres B Pipe,Test Pipe, etc.

Is it true the Catback System alone only gives 5-10HP?

I know there's alot of people that are gonna say get a Y-pipe, but I don't think my local exhaust shop will install It. If not, what parts after the Y-pipe are needed to get that deep roar Im looking for.

Thanks...

It depends on exactly what you're going for, what you're willing to do and/or laws in your area.

A test pipe eliminates the catalytic converter in favor of regular straight piping. Most likely not legal or emissions compliant. If you don't have those issues, that's an option. Otherwise, you could look into a high-flow cat.

A resonator will help eliminate the popping and farting noises that are so notorious among import exhausts.

There are actually quite a few threads discussing people's experiences with various 4th gen exhaust options. Search around and you should find a lot of info.

And yes, gains from a catback ALONE are going to be negligible. There's a lot of other more restrictive/more effective stuff going on aside from the catback. Exhaust and intake mods complement each other, but you'll get the best results if you start with the worst offenders (y-pipe alone will be more helpful than catback alone, for instance).

If your exhast shop won't do the y-pipe, consider doing it yourself (and finding a new exhaust shop...), it's pretty straightforward: one piece, 3 flanges.

ok, Thanks for clearing that up.

Im just gonna have to stop by their shop sometime and ask, It's the best exhaust shop in the area. It's ran by mennonites, but that is besides the point.. they do fantastic work at great prices, all custom too.

Some guy told me a story the other day

He was in his car and hit a hog with it going about 55 mph.The hog was a mennonite's which had gotten loose from thepen. The mennonite asked the guy if his son, a body shop man, could fix the car and leave the insurance co. out of it. The guysaid ok.

When the guy came back for his car, not only was it cherry, the father had cleaned the hog and provided an ice chest fullof meat for the guy.

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I have a 96 i30 and i noticed it was sounding louder. SO i brought to the local mechanic and he says it looks like my engine pipe need to be replaced. I believe he said its the pipe that comes out of the engine to first part of the exhaust system. Do any of you know how difficult and/or expensive this is to replace?

Thanks!
