i have a question about the cats on an n/a 300zx. i am finally getting a catback exhaust system and when i install them i want to gut the cats, but someone told me that on the n/a's it is actually worse to not have any cats because you will lose horsepower. has anyone heard this before because i would like to know before i put the new exhaust on. thanks alot.

i know that on some cars removing the cats causes a loss of backpressure that some engines are calibrated to have and as aresult DO in fact LOSE horsepower.

i've also heard that taking the cats off of a NA z32 is not really beneficial because it doesn't have a breathing problem like you would have if you were forcing tons of extra air through with forced induction (like on the twin turbo model).

personally, if i had an NA 300zx i would keep the cats on. if you're not gonna gain any worthy power, you might as well help the environment a little.

i don't know how it dynos though with / without cats. but that's what i'd do.
