Hi my engine is acting up again. It's been a couple of months since I fixed the engine running rich from not getting PCV air back in.Now the spark plugs are fine and not fouled. I even replaced them with DENSO and also put in a new fuel filter. It didn't help.

The engine would randomly miss a couple of strokes while criuse at 30-40 MPH. Or it would do that during light or heavy acceleration while on 2nd or 3rd. But not necessarily under heavy acceleration.I can always hear a pop from exhuast when I let go of the gas. I can also hear it when the engine misses.I'm running Plus in my gas tank right now. New air filter, plugs, fuel filter, no EGR.Should I advance the timing by rotating the distributor counter clockwise for a couple of degrees? Will it fix that?

Thanks

try sea foaming your car. if you have exhaust leak you'll be able to see the smoke come outta there. and clean sticky valves all which "could" cause miss fire

How do I clean the Sticky Valves? I'm asking exact instructions because my DIY can lead to the destruction of the engine. ^_^;

To rephrase the symptons.

The engine misses a couple or more strokes while under acceleration, light, moderate and heavy. Not all accelerations but comes up sometimes and doesn't at many other times. If there are misses and I keep on the throttle, once the couple of misses are gone there is a surge in engine rev. About 200 rpm or so depending on the throttle applied.

It also misses a couple of strokes when in cruise under 50MPH.

It does not miss anything when reving above 3k rpm and driving 50-90MPH on the highway.

It misses one stroke randomly while in idle. Not very often but it misses.

After some driving, smoke can be seen coming out of the exhaust. e.g. at a red light stop. The smoke won't show up otherwise.

There is no fouling on the spark-plugs. Both nodes are clean, although the side rim is covered in carbon.

I just figured out that IACV has nothing to do with engine missing randomly. TPS and knock sensor are on my check list now.

I've cleaned the connectors on pretty much all the other components including the MAFS.

Thanks
