well a larger pipe will decrease backpressure but that is a good thing in a car with a turbo. It allows quicker spooling. What that guy might be saying (assuming he isn't a complete fool) is that you might run the risk of burning the valves with little/no backpressure. This might be true in cars not intended for use with a turbo (ie: a SOHC CRX) but cars that have a turbo should have a cam profile to match their use. I read this somewhere so someone correct me if I get it wrong, but cars that have a turbo will often have an exhaust profile that opens later than it would on a N/A car so it can build up more pressure before release, putting more power to move the turbo.
now for my shot in the dark:
I assume this extra time closed allows a more complete burn of the gasses keeping the valves from getting scorched due to lack of backpressure to keep the "explosion" contained.:help Am I even close...anyone?
With a turbo, less backpressure is preferred. But it always helps to have the right cam.
