Is it worth it to get a straight pipe? despite the increase of how loud it is...and how much louder is it? im going to need an exhaust soon for my ka-t so im debating should i go straight pipe

i did it but it says on the side that ur in cali. I dont know about emissions there so u may want to rethink this thru thoroughly as the loudness of a str8 pipe might not be ur main concern. I can tell you that my car really isnt that loud besides the occasional backfire. Obviously if ur in boost, who cares how loud it is, but i would check the emissions thing first if that is a concern for u.

anyways thanks jookmasta...yeah they're pretty strict here in CA...but i'm still not sure because i won't be passsing emissions in the first place because i took it out of my engine....anyone else with ideas?

and LEM.....iono if a mig welder is good for pipes...probably a tig would do better

I migged my manifold and all my piping. If you can weld it will be just as strong as tig. Hell you could solder them and have them hold if your good.

The best place is http://www.summitracing.com to buy J and U bends.

if you're up against something that is really tight, try http://www.burnsstainless.com They have a lot more material selection, and some really tight radius bends. Their bends are REALLY smooth and easy to work with, just be careful welding on the outside of the radius, as the material will get a little thin.

yeah i migged my exhaust from the turbo back also... it's holding up well so far... i only used aluminized steel, not stainless. we'll see how long it lasts... i did what i did because even if it lasts 1 year and then craps out, well replacing it about 5 times will cost about as much as me buying a full exhaust from someone else (downpipe to cat to muffler)... most catback systems alone (brand name ones anyway) cost upwards of $600+ for stainless, and $1000+ for titanium... so if i tried to put together a full exhaust (turbo back) i'd end up spending at least $1000 for everything from the turbo back for stainless, and i don't know how much for titanium... i can't imagine how much people charge for titanium downpipes and dump tubes. i'd rather buy some good fuel management with that money...

i put my exhaust together for well under $200 and i have a bunch of straight pipe and one u bend left over... i'd sell you the rest of what i have left over for cheap but my brother wants me to make him an exhaust also, so i can't do that. i got the u bends on ebay, and the straight section from a local muffler shop because shipping on straight pipes can be expensive. check out your local places to see if you can't get some straight pipe from them before you go order it and pay more than it's worth in shipping...

our regulations arent as tight here in tx, but i still want a relatively quiet exhaust with great potential. my two options so far are, either a full 3" turbo back with two 18" straight through resonators, still loud without a silencer, or an exhaust cut-out:

edit: an for bends you can also try jegs.com

so is i really worth getting rid of the cat? Can you really tell a difference, from when you replaced the cat for a straight pipe? How long will a cat last on a turbo ka?

you know the exhaust i built is not very loud at all... it provides a very nice sound i think... i have no resonators, just a free flowing cat (***not a test pipe... i like the air i breathe) and 2 ubends and a straight section of like 5 feet or something like that ... that's all i needed to make my exhaust.

the reason my exhaust is not too loud is because of the turbo. the turbo's act as a major noise suppressor, and i don't even have my silencer on... if it was on it would just a bit louder than stock i imagine... right now it's perfect i think. not too loud and when i step on it it gets MEAN!!! it sounds badass under throttle.
